The NGO Council was part of the Interministerial Presidential Awards committee on Mazingira. The online meeting brought together top government officials, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, United Nation agencies, civil society organizations and other leading environmental stakeholders.
The aim of this award is to recognize and celebrate the outstanding work of the Head of states, ambassadors, envoys, activists, institutions and individuals in environmental conservation globally. Environment is global by nature therefore the need to ignite interest in various players across the world.
The committee was tasked with the role of establishing various categories of the awards, providing necessary information for the selection and developing a mechanism for the nomination.
Winners for the various categories will be inaugurated by His Excellency The President Uhuru Kenyatta during this year's Madaraka Day celebration.
The NGO Council is part of a small team that was constituted by the committee to develop a term of reference of the awards. A subsequent meeting for the team has been scheduled to Tuesday, April 19, 2022 where they will work on the nomination criteria and later on do private circulation
