The NGO Council joined The PanAfrican Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) during the launch of the 7th African Climate Change and Environment Reporting Awards at Sarova Stanley. Anchored on resilience building, climate innovations, climate policy, governance and transparency and climate finance; the awards aim to ensure that Africa's climate story is told, highlighting the areas that are unseen by the rest of the world and determining how best interventions can be designed. It also encourages active media participation in African Climate Change discourse with a view of shaping perspectives and narratives.
Journalists play an important role in dissemination of information and climate change being an urgent issue, the media is better placed to have a wider reach in highlighting without generalizing climate issues and strengthening their institutional mechanisms towards shaping the climate change stories. It is in this regard that PACJA has established six award categories for the media to participate in, as a way of advancing climate change agenda in articles.
